More jobs, investment and infrastructure could be in the pipeline for the Northern Territory, benefiting owners of real estate in Darwin and surrounding areas.
Prime Minister Tony Abbott announced a new whitepaper will be written that will focus on the development of Northern Australia.
The whitepaper will identify key locations throughout Queensland, Western Australia and the Northern Territory for infrastructure development, so these states can provide for future residents and long-term growth.
Existing strengths, such as agriculture production, tourism and education and health services will be capitalised through policies in the whitepaper, while also providing good conditions for private sector investment.
The whitepaper will be produced over the next 12 months by the federal government and will include a plan for development over the next 20 years.
Commenting on the announcement of the whitepaper, Northern Territory Chief Minister Adam Giles said it is "encouraging to see the Prime Minister making progress" on these parts of the country.
"After years of inertia on plans to bring development to the North, I am happy to say we are now seeing a partnership from Canberra to assist in securing the Territory's future," said Mr Giles in a February 28 statement.
