Water safety is a major concern for young parents across the nation, but if you live in real estate in Darwin – you're in luck. This week (21 – 28 September) is Water Safety Awareness week, with the campaign expected to help bring light to the dangers of water to young children and the importance of learning how to swim safely.
Minister for Sport, Recreation and Racing Matt Conlan said the encouragement of safe behaviour around bodies of water would be the top priority for the state this week.
"Water safety is everyone's responsibility 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and now is the perfect time to reinforce that message with our weather really starting to heat up in September and more Territorians head to the water to cool off," said Mr Conlan in a 21 September statement.
"I know many children will be heading to the pool over the coming weeks in both the centre and the top end with the wet season kicking in so it's important to remind everyone of the dangers involved in and around water."
There are a number of events being run at local pools across the state, as well as a free family water safety picnic at Leanyer Recreation Park on Sunday 28 September.
