Visit the Tiwi Islands From Darwin

One advantage of living in real estate in Darwin is the city's proximity to the Tiwi Islands, home to a modern day Aboriginal community.

Made up of two islands – Bathurst and Melville – the Tiwi islands are only 60 kilometres away from Darwin.

Cross the Timor Sea on a ferry or hop on a plane for a 20-minute flight to arrive at this interesting group of Islands – it is easy to reach this area from your property in Darwin.

You will need to book with a recommended tour group as they will be responsible for organising permits for you.

Once there, you can enjoy the local scenery, which includes remote waterfalls and dense rainforest.

In addition to the natural wonders of this area you can get a dose of culture. Visit the Tiwi people and hear stories about their unique religion, culture and art.

This group of people are renown for their batik and silkscreened clothing, bangles, pottery, carvings, painted conch shells and Pukumani burial poles.
