The Tamil Society celebrated its 30-year anniversary of being in the Northern Territory on June 15, with an event held in Darwin.
Peter Styles, the minister for multicultural affairs, attended the event on Saturday and said he was proud of the society's work.
"Tonight is such a momentous occasion for the Tamil Society and it's a great honour to be attending," Mr Styles said in a June 15 statement.
"Darwin really leads the way in multiculturalism and in the sharing of all our different cultures from our many community groups – I believe the rest of the world can learn off us."
If you're on the lookout for real estate in Darwin, you might be pleased to know that the city has a proud reputation as a multicultural city with over 50 ethnic groups being represented in the 2011 census.
The Tamil Society organises several cultural functions every year centred around Tamil New Year, Deepavali and Christmas.
Their next event, 'India at Mindil', will be held on June 22 and promises to be an exciting and colourful affair with great food, music and dance bringing Indian culture alive in Darwin.
It will be a great opportunity for those with property in Darwin to celebrate Indian traditions in an event that is expected to draw thousands of people.
