Hundreds of runners will be on their marks in the Darwin CBD this Sunday for the inaugural Mitchell Street Mile.
The event will also attract hundreds of residents of Darwin property to watch some of Australia’s best athletes battle it out for line honours.
The festivities kick off from 3pm with separate mile races for categories including primary and secondary schoolers, masters, all comers, defence/services and celebrities.
Australia women’s mile record holder Lisa Corrigan and Australian women’s cross country champion Bridey Delaney got their first look at the course this afternoon and gave it the tick of approval ahead of Sunday’s elite women’s race.
The atmosphere is sure to be fantastic with people able to watch the races at many of the great restaurants, cafes and hospitality venues along Mitchell Street or here at Tamarind Park on the corner of Knuckey and Mitchell Streets which will be specially set up for families on the day.
The family fun zone at Tamarind Park will include jumping castles, face painting, a fundraising BBQ and an Outside Broadcast from 3pm to 6pm.
If you have not already registered to participate online entries will be taken until 10am Sunday. Racegoers can also sign up at the Parap markets on Saturday morning.
