Motorists living in real estate in Darwin will benefit from recent plans announced by the Northern Territory government to upgrade the intersection of McMillans and Lee Point Road in the city.
Due to an increase in vehicles using the stretch of road the upgrade is required to ensure the safety of all drivers.
"The northern suburbs are rapidly growing and with new suburbs such as Muirhead and Lyons, traffic volume will continue to increase," said Transport Minister Peter Styles in a March 11 statement.
Along with creating a safer road network for motorists the upgrade will assist with easing congestion issues along the overloaded stretch of road and better provide for living at property in Darwin and in particular the expanding northern suburbs.
A number of key changes will be made to the road layout in order to ensure safety and capacity is catered for. Some alterations include a lane extension into Lee Point Road, extra safety precautions for motorists at the turning lane and two extra lanes constructed at the intersection.
The safety upgrade work is expected to take around eight weeks and will begin in April this year.
As the population rises, projects like this show a commitment by the government to making sure Darwin accommodates new residents and grows into a safer more enjoyable place to live.
