Local sports-lovers in Darwin can rejoice, as it was recently announced the city will host a special premiership NRL match in 2013.
The Parramatta Eels will play the Canberra Raiders on Saturday August 9 in Darwin, which will be one of the biggest games of the year for the Eels, according to Minister for Sport, Recreation and Racing, Matt Conlan.
"There is a huge appetite for rugby league in the Territory and this game will be a highlight of the Top End sporting calendar in 2014," he said.
Darwin has signed a four year deal with the Eels club and will see at least one regular season home game each year.
Those who live in property in Darwin will be able to catch a glimpse of the action on the sporting field and participate in an activity themselves.
The sporting club are committed to providing many programs within the local community that promote healthy lifestyles.
This will benefit those with real estate in Darwin who may be encouraged to get active. With over 10.8 million Australian adults overweight in 2012 and 4.7 million of these obese, these sporting fixtures may help knock these figures back in the Territory.
