Darwin Wharf to Host Music and Fireworks Extravaganza

By Alicia Jarrett

Residents of real estate in Darwin can head down to one of the city's top waterfront districts this weekend for a night of brilliant music and colour.

The Darwin Symphony Orchestra will be delighting the community with their free concert, Symphony on the Sea, at Stokes Hill Wharf this Saturday (September 7) from 6:30 pm.

Locals will be treated to a range of water-themed music pieces, featuring the works of classical composers such as Handel's Water Music and Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake.

The orchestra will also play some more contemporary tunes, such as the themes from popular water-based movies including Jaws and Pirates of the Caribbean.

Audience members can enjoy the show from various locations around the wharf, as the orchestra will be performing on a barge visible from the harbour.

A spectacular fireworks display approximately two hours from the start of the concert will close off the evening.

This free community concert, which follows hot on the heels of last month's Darwin Festival, is another example of the diverse cultural and arts shows that are constantly on display in the city.
