Darwin will be celebrating International Women's Day this year with a walk that starts at the steps of Parliament House tomorrow (May 11).
Local residents and community members have been invited to take part, so if you own property in Darwin this could be a chance to raise awareness for the cause.
Darwin lord mayor Katrina Fong Lim said the city council is proud to be involved in commemorating International Women's Day for a fifth year.
"I really hope the community come along and take part in the morning – it's such a great day," she said, adding that this year's theme is The Gender Agenda: Gaining Momentum.
"It is important to appreciate the work that has been done by women before us to open up the opportunities we have today and to recognise our responsibility to foster the future generations of women and ensure their opportunities continue to grow."
The walk will proceed from Parliament House at 9:30am, and will go through the CBD and then back to the starting point, where there will be a number of key note speakers, live music and entertainment and a small exhibition of information stalls at Main Hall from 10:15am.
